MARPLAN®
(Monoamine oxidase inhibitor)

Dosing Information

a. Swallow the tablet with liquid. If you can’t swallow whole, crumble tablet and take with liquid or food.
b. Take the tablet at the same times each day.
c. If you forget a dose, take as soon as you remember up to 2 hours later. If more than 2 hours, wait for the next scheduled dose (do not double this dose).
d. Do not take with nonprescription diet pills, nose drops, medicine for asthma, cough, cold or allergy or medicine containing caffeine or alcohol.

Dietary Information

Avoid the following foods with tyramine:

  • aged cheese (cream cheese and cottage are okay)
  • Italian broad beans
  • alcohol (especially beer and wine)
  • liver
  • avocados
  • orange pulp
  • bananas
  • pickled or smoked fish, poultry, or meats
  • beef or chicken liver
  • raisins
  • caffeinated beverages
  • salami
  • canned meats
  • soups (packaged or cube soups)
  • chocolate
  • sour cream
  • dry sausages
  • soy sauce
  • eggplant
  • spinach
  • fava beans
  • tomatoes
  • figs
  • yogurt
  • grains that are processed
  • green bean pods
  • home made breads

 

e. Do not drive or pilot an aircraft until you learn how the medicine affects you. Do not work around dangerous machinery, climb ladders or work in high places. Danger increases if you drink alcohol or take medicine affecting alertness and reflexes.

f. Do not discontinue the medication without your doctor’s advice.

g. If you develop any bothersome symptoms notify your doctor immediately.
